Remote Art Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic

In March 2020, schools across the county closed and children were sent home because of the spread of the coronavirus. Teachers and administrators rallied to provide quality education and continuity for students.

As an art educator, I created Amicable Studios as an online resource through Zoom and a YouTube channel to support my students and their families. I wanted to continue the important work of exploration, play and critical thinking in the communities created in my art classes.

Art education is essential for all children. I believe art skills build confidence and resiliency to help children navigate digital visual literacy, the effects of social media, and create dialogue about feelings and mental health.

Art can change lives, and sometimes it can save them.
